When walking along Market Street in Camana Bay, you’ll spot a sign for The Goat and may wonder if pastoral farming has finally made its way into the town that has everything. But neighhh....
The Goat is actually an exciting dining addition to the Camana Bay landscape, offering a menu packed with comfort food served in a sophisticated atmosphere.
Restaurateur and vintner Mario Lacoviello – of The Tasting Room and Mario’s fame – has added another arrow to his quiver here. Well-priced dishes run the gamut from lovingly prepared chicken noodle soup, meatballs marinara and crispy cauliflower bites (you do NOT have to be vegan to appreciate) to so-titled “legendary burgers,” pizzas, classic sandwiches, pastas, “star plates” and very tempting desserts.
Beyond the many breakfast, lunch and dinner options, there is large selection of beverages to put a spring in your step – particularly on a workday Monday.
Smoothies, boost shots (ginger kick and beet burst) and cold pressed juices are a great way to ensure you get your vitamins and greens into your diet. The Goat also serves up a mean cup of joe. The coffee is rich and flavourful, and they pride themselves on their billowy cloud of foam atop a cappuccino.
When we stopped by on a sunny Saturday, the air-conditioning was a welcome respite from the heat. A good number of the items on the menu appealed, making choices difficult, so we ordered a wider range than usual. I like the fact that a number of the dishes are available in two sizes. You can get a cup or bowl of soup, a side salad or full-size portion, four or seven chicken wings. ... It makes it much easier to graze and sample.
Little touches like cloth coasters rather than paper and stylish tableware are nicely noticeable. Whoever chose the soup bowls was definitely on to something, as these receptacles really seem to hold the temperatures. At least 10 minutes into savouring the tomato basil soup, it was still hot. Great for chatty diners who take mouthfuls in between catching up.
The chicken wings were meaty and delicious – loved the buffalo sauce – and the burger and BLT both got thumbs-up.
Of course, we left room for dessert; we’re not animals (ha-ha). The warm bread and butter pudding was divine, as was the mango cheesecake. The latter was firm, yet creamy, with a goodly slab of mango along the top. An ultra-foamy decaf cappuccino sealed the deal.
The Goat is the perfect place to take a break from the bustle of work or shopping, and there is indoor and al fresco seating available. No time to stop? Grab a bite to go!
The Goat is open Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.
