Cayman International School earned one championship and one bronze medal and featured a handful of standout performances at the 2025 Caribbean International Schools Association Tournament, held at Carol Morgan School in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

CIS’s girls’ football team won the tournament title while CIS senior Ava Degrand was named girls’ football tournament MVP, final MVP and top goal scorer in the competition while also being selected to the CISA Dream Teams in both football and volleyball.

The tournament featured 31 teams from international schools in Colombia, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago and the Cayman Islands.

Girls’ football claims title
CIS’s girls football team advanced to the final after a penalty shootout victory over Carol Morgan School in the semifinals. With the teams knotted at 2-2 after regulation, goalkeeper Imogen Smailes saved two penalty kicks, while Degrand, Reese Bateson and Tessa Clark converted their tries from the spot to secure the win.

In the championship match against Baldwin School, Clark assisted Bateson for the first goal, and Degrand added another while Smailes made a one-on-one save late in the match as CIS won 2-0.

Four players were named to the girls’ football Dream Team: Degrand, Smailes, Clark and Cyanne Raftopoulos.
A total of 52 CIS student-athletes participated in the tournament. CIS Athletic Director Jared Joiner thanked the coaching staff for their contributions.

Girls’ basketball
The CIS girls’ basketball team finished third after a bronze medal win over The Domínico Americano School. Tyriah Chantiloupe was selected to the girls’ basketball Dream Team and led the team in scoring throughout the tournament.

Boys’ basketball
The boys’ basketball team received a forfeit win in the play-in game and reached the semifinals, where they lost to Baldwin. CIS then fell to DAS in the bronze medal game and placed fourth. Rhys Marr was named to the boys’ basketball Dream Team.

Girls’ volleyball
The girls’ volleyball team advanced to the semifinals after defeating The International School of Port of Spain in two sets. Following a loss to Baldwin, the team lost in the bronze medal match against Carol Morgan School in three sets and finished fourth overall. Degrand was named to the girls’ volleyball Dream Team.

Boys’ football
The boys’ football team finished sixth overall. It opened with a 1-0 lead against ISPS Trinidad but lost 4-1.

The boys’ volleyball team also placed sixth after falling in the fifth-place consolation match. Several of their matches were closely contested. CIS is scheduled to participate in the 2026 CISA Tournament.
