Camana Bay is home to a number of professional services firms and other organisations offering valuable internships and scholarship opportunities for students in the Cayman Islands. Among these organisations are EY, Ogier, PwC and Dart, each of which plays a pivotal role in supporting and developing local talent through structured programmes designed to provide hands-on experience and career development.
PwC’s internship programme is designed to give students a comprehensive experience in the world of accounting and consulting.
"PwC has made me feel incredibly welcome since the first day of my internship," intern Janie Gosselin said. "Although I've only been working here for two weeks, I already feel like a part of the team. The PwC team pushes me to grow as a young professional — by inviting me to join meetings, providing me with the opportunity to make an impact with my work, and allowing me to learn so much along the way."
PwC offers summer internships across all lines of service with a focus on developing students’ professional skills through real-world client engagements. Interns receive coaching, mentorship and training on soft skills and business etiquette — preparing them for success in the professional world.
The PwC Career Development Program is a standout feature of the firm’s internship offerings.
“It provides the student with an opportunity to engage with clients, firm leadership and peers. They will have an assigned buddy, receive coaching from experienced employees, be trained on soft skills, business etiquette and how to thrive in a team environment. Successful work experience can lead to a full-time career opportunity," said PwC's Syrena Powell.
PwC offers substantial financial support for both local and international studies, with scholarships of up to US$50,000 per year for overseas education. Interns who perform well during their summer programme may also be offered career commitment contracts, providing a pathway to full-time employment after graduation.
This year, PwC welcomed 35 interns from a variety of backgrounds.
EY offers internships across various service lines, including audit, tax, consulting and strategy and transactions.
“At EY, the internship programme serves as more than just a summer job — it’s the beginning of a potential career,” said Jacquelyn Duies, Assurance, FSO and BBC experienced recruiting lead.
The programme exposes interns to real client work, industry challenges and financial services sectors like banking, insurance and wealth management. Interns are not just observers, they actively contribute to projects, gaining exposure to the daily workings of one of the world’s leading professional services firms.
“Each year, EY welcomes 10 to 20 interns, with an additional group of Caymanian students being awarded the prestigious Dan Scott Scholarship," Duies said. "This scholarship provides up to US$30,000 annually for up to five years, ensuring recipients not only receive financial support for their education but also enjoy guaranteed internships during school breaks."
Many students can transition from interns to full-time employees at EY upon graduation.
Ogier offers a well-regarded structured Summer Internship Programme aimed at students pursuing legal and non-legal careers. This programme provides students with an in-depth exposure to the world of law, as well as the opportunity to gain experience in various support functions within the firm. Interns at Ogier are mentored by experienced professionals and are actively involved in meaningful projects across different practice areas.
Each summer, Ogier typically welcomes 15 to 18 interns, with a select few also receiving scholarships for their studies. These internships are an excellent opportunity for students to build their professional portfolios, as many interns return to the firm after completing their studies.
“We are proud to have had several interns and scholarship recipients return to join Ogier as Articled Clerks or full-time employees upon completion of their studies. Their continued success and contributions stand as a testament to the value of these programmes in developing future legal professionals,” said Sarafina McField, Ogier's senior HR advisor.
With an open application process each year, Ogier continues to foster a strong talent pipeline, aiming to support the next generation of legal and non-legal professionals.
Dart welcomes the next generation of Caymanian leaders and innovators to its offices each year through its Work-X programme, helping youth to work, learn and grow professionally.
The programme provides students with an expansive experience in a variety of industries, from information technology, marketing, architecture, engineering and construction management to finance and more.
Students are assigned projects that help meet real business objectives and work side-by-side with professionals in Dart’s businesses who help teach them about their respective careers of choice.
Dart has welcomed 31 Work-X interns this year, of which 10 are Dart High School and University Scholarship recipients.
The internship and scholarship programmes offered by firms like these provide invaluable opportunities for students in the Cayman Islands. By offering hands-on experience, mentorship and financial support, they are shaping the future workforce in Cayman.
