As part of Camana Bay’s annual Wellness Month, The Gallery by Jason Kennedy is inviting community members to pause, breathe and create as they contribute to a collaborative painting throughout February.
The interactive art activity is open to the public during regular gallery hours, with visitors encouraged to add as much or as little to the evolving piece as they wish. The initiative is designed to offer a gentle form of art therapy — a space where participants can relax, reflect and find calm through creativity.
“People underestimate art as therapy,” said Kennedy, an artist and The Gallery’s founder. “As children, we’re always making things, using our minds and hands to create. Then life happens and we find jobs, go on dates, get busy and stop finding time to create. So I want people to come into the gallery and spend some time with a canvas, some paint and just relax a bit.”
The Gallery by Jason Kennedy, located on the Paseo in Camana Bay, showcases the vibrant artistry of Kennedy and other creatives, including striking portraits and depictions of Caribbean life and wildlife. Its mission includes providing a sanctuary where people from all walks of life can “catch their breath” and connect with visual art in a communal setting.
Monthly events at The Gallery already include opportunities to engage with visual art, fashion and poetry, making it a natural fit for a Wellness Month collaboration. Art therapy activities like the collaborative painting give visitors another way to experience The Gallery beyond viewing and purchasing work.
Kennedy’s philosophy is rooted in the idea that creativity is inherently therapeutic. His own artistic practice — capturing the mood, lifestyle and faces of the Caribbean — reflects a deep engagement with human emotion and everyday life. By inviting the public into the creative process, The Gallery aims to break down barriers to artistic expression and foster a sense of shared purpose.
The Wellness Month offering ties into wider efforts across Camana Bay to support mental and emotional wellbeing through community programmes and accessible activities. Throughout February, residents and visitors will find wellness-focused events, classes and opportunities to engage in healthy, creative and reflective experiences across the Town Centre.
The collaborative painting project is open during The Gallery’s regular hours, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Participants can drop in anytime to contribute, watch the piece grow or simply absorb the colours and textures around them.
As Wellness Month continues, The Gallery’s interactive art experience offers a reminder that creativity — even in its simplest form — can be a vital part of self-care and community wellbeing.
