Ten bat houses were installed recently in Camana Bay, just east of its for-sale residential community of OLEA, bringing the total number of houses up to 34 and adding a potential population of 400 new bats to the area. This is of benefit to Cayman's local ecosystem, which relies on bats for the essential role they play in pest control, pollination and seed dispersion.
The new homes for these winged mammals are made from recycled plastic and have a relatively small wind surface area, which allows them to withstand high winds during storms. A number of Camana Bay's 34 bat houses can be spotted along the canals and trails throughout the Town Centre.
