With a focus on empowerment, safety and women's rights, RenataK Self-Protection owner Renata Kecskes on 8 March organised and led a free self-defence seminar for female civil servants held in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

This year, she teamed up with the Family Resource Centre and the Wellness Department to hold the event, as FRC celebrated the achievements of women and called for greater equality in its annual observance of Honouring Women Month throughout the month of March.

Held at Camana Bay's CrossFit Cayman, the seminar aimed to highlight the importance of women being able to protect themselves.

"Only those who feel empowered and safe can be happy, confident and excel professionally," Kecskes said. "We shared tips on how to use common sense and street smarts to stay safe as well as mental and verbal techniques to keep trouble away. We also demonstrated a few moves that are easy to learn and execute in case of a dangerous situation.

"Our mission is to build a community of strong women here in the Cayman Islands."
