On 15 November 2010, Jeremy Ebanks and his wife opened Fluff n’ Fold as a customer-focused and easy-access wash, dry and fold by-the-pound laundry service. Ten years later, the company is well-known not only for its retail segment, which now offers dry cleaning, alterations and household item cleaning, but also for its commercial segment, which services a range of businesses from West Bay to Cayman Kai.
After relocating from its first location at Plaza Venezia to Hydro Business Park, where it remains today, Fluff n’ Fold opened an additional Camana Bay outlet in 2015.
“It wasn’t necessarily a passion,” Jeremy says of his business. “I used to live in the United States and I used a similar service there. After conducting my market research, I realised there was a gap here in Cayman for a wash, dry and fold by-the-pound service. What I wanted was to create a company that made doing laundry really easy.”
Fluff n’ Fold’s retail leg operates 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday with the option of same-day service. Its commercial business is continuous.
“We don’t close,” Jeremy says. “Until the COVID lockdown, we worked nine and a half years, seven days a week. Our customers — hospitals, restaurants, hotels — don’t close, so neither do we. We’re here to provide an essential service for them.”
As the local franchise holders for GreenEarth Cleaning, Fluff n’ Fold is Cayman’s only certified eco-friendly laundry service, making environmental responsibility a primary tenet of their business. Eighty percent of Fluff n’ Fold’s equipment runs on gas and its recycling programme — which includes hanger and bag recycling — helps ensure the company’s carbon footprint is minimal.
In addition, while many dry cleaners use petrochemical toxic solvents that are classified as harmful to air, water and potentially humans, GreenEarth products use pure liquid silicone, which is non-toxic and non-hazardous.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Fluff n’ Fold will be offering a range of specials throughout November to thank all of their loyal customers and welcome new ones. Thrilled to be reaching this well-earned milestone, Jeremy says that although the road as a small, 100% Caymanian-owned business was difficult, he is thankful to those who have made Fluff n’ Fold so successful.
